Museo dei Tasso in Camerata Cornello

Cornello dei Tasso

The Borgo Cornello dei Tasso - part of Camerata Cornello is situated in the Valle Brembana approx. 30 km north of Bergamo.

Further up the valley is Brembana Piazza, one of the most known ski resorts in the Bergamo Alps, about 10 kilometers down the valley is the famous resort of San Pellegrino Terme.

Cornello die Tasso is accessible only on foot, the road ends about 200m from the Borgo in a parking lot. From the main road in Camerata Cornello - which is about 80 meters below Cornello dei Tasso - a staircase leads up.

Cameratro Cornello can be reached by car - the Valle Brembana and San Pellegrino are signposted from Bergamo - or by bus. The travel time by bus from Bergamo is about 1 hour, the bus runs about every hour, sometimes on school days every half hour.

Philatelic highlight is the Museo die Tasso e dei storia postale. A larger part of the collection is devoted to the Tasso family - known in Germany as the Thurn and Taxis. The family also includes the poet Torquetto Tasso, so not only philatelists are seen in Camerata Cornello.

Pride of the postal history collection is a "Penny Black" donated by Bolaffi, for me the most important subject is of course the Bollatrice. This is in the exhibition hall four, which is located in another building. The museum is distributed on at least four buildings of the Borgo, two hours time you can easily spend here. Non philatelistic accompaniment may be completed after half of the time - and have also visited the church. Perhaps the family tree of the Thurn and Taxis does the trick, which occupies an entire wall. Compensation certainly offers the fantastic scenery and a meal at the Trattoria.

The easiest way to reach Cornello dei Tasso are the stairs from the main road. At the bottom of the stairs is this billboard. Parking here is limited. If this parking is occupied, a few meters up the road is the junction to the offical parking, from which a stairs free way leads to the village.

The medieval village is still inhabited today. In addition to a church from the 14th Century (the translation of "Chiesa del ’300"), there is a Trattoria, where dining is excellent.

Two of the frescoes of the church.
